FOLLOWER POWER!
– Technique for front voleos and complex embellishments
– A challenging choreographed routine to practice musicality and embellishments
With Veronica Toumanova and Silvia Bivolaru
Tango Amistoso + Verotango
How to tell a story with your dance? Being an active follower means giving your dance density and texture by connecting your movement to music. Also, embellishments are not there to be just a cherry on a pie, it’s about creating a totally different pie every time!
If you have missed our first FOLLOWER POWER workshop, don’t worry, nothing should hold you back to take the next one. In this second FOLLOWER POWER workshop we will offer a new similar challenge to followers who want to improve their technique, learn some new complex embellishments as well as a choreographed structure to practice movement and to be creative with musical interpretation.
We will do this by teaching you a choreographed routine which you will study with us in the second part of the workshop and that you will be able to use afterwards as solo practice material. This routine will make practicing more fun but will also help you understand when, how and why we use embellishments in our dance. The routine will contain some challenging technique elements such as pivots, turns and voleos.
The workshop will consist of the following parts:
1. Warming up for the challenge: stretch and move your body, wake up your legs and feet. Posture and grounding exercises to prepare the technical work.
2. Technique exercises for forward ochos and the front voleo.
3. Technique for calesita and a couple of complex embellishments
4 .Choreographed routine incorporating walking, changes of directions, crosses, pivoting, paradas, pasadas, ochos, turns, front voleos, back voleos, free leg movement, spiced with plenty of embellishments. We will perform this routine differently to different music, allowing you to connect to various orchestras. This sequence will be challenging, but very effective for your balance, speed, legs, footwork but most importantly: it will be fun!
