These series of workshops will be super fun – there will be lots of exercises, lots of sequences and we will have fun playing with the timings and musicality for both Milonga and Vals.
Important Notes:
We all have some basic steps for dancing milonga, but what about more advanced, complex and funky ones? In this module we will explore ways to enrich our milonga vocabulary with new figures, using the basic building blocks and applying them in “milonga lisa” as well as in “milonga traspie”. We will improve our technique for dancing rebounding steps as well as learn some cool and funky typical figures for fast milongas.
Cost: £15 (or £45 for the whole course)
The fun in milonga is about going fast but staying connected and precise at the same time. In this workshop we will first work on the techniques to generate and keep up a high speed, both in solo and in partner practice, using some simple moves at first. Next, we will show you several complex milonga figures to make you burn the floor such as “the cascade”, going at a high speed but staying in control all the way throughout, without losing your partner. This will improve your sense for the geometry of complex milonga steps as well as enrich your vocabulary with advanced options.
Cost: £15 (or £45 for the whole course)
In this modules we will study some easy giros for milonga, understanding the difference between a salon giro (with a dissociated pivot) and a milonguero giro (keeping the hips frontal to the partner and pivoting in one block). We will also see how to dance a contratiempo and a double tiempo in a milonga giro. Giros in milongas are challenging because of a high speed but also because of wanting to stay in close embrace.
Cost: £15 (or £45 for the whole course)
In this module we will study the two contratiempo variations we use in waltz: the so-called “1-2” and “3-1” contratiempos. If you have no idea what we are talking about, then this workshop is for you! We will then apply these different contratiempo structures to a couple of popular typical waltz “cadenas” (chained figures) that allow you to keep going around the floor by repeating the same block of steps several times.
Cost: £15 (or £45 for the whole course)
