Saturday: Tango musicality in depth

Description:
The common compass of feelings in a milonga is actually the music. And yet, each dancer and each couple can have their own way to hear, share and interpret it.

In this special workshop we will talk about the structure of tango music. We have the “neutral” rhythm as a time division and we have the rhythmical motifs that orquestras create on pieces, on which we can play. Then, we have the melody, what is frequently the foundation of a tango piece and what discerns it and makes it easy to remember. The melody is separated in phrases and semi-phrases and can include several instrument sounds and several inter-lapping melodic lines. Last, but not least, we have the lyrics and the voice of the singer, and all the power they can contain.

Our goal is to be able to observe all these elements and obtain the knowledge of how to dance them. We learn to chose at will among them every time we dance, instead of getting lost and making random choices.
We will work on various orquestras from the Guardia Nueva and the Golden Age. The movement examples will be simple, so that we concentrate on the musical observation.

Sunday: Changing the dynamic of our dance – various possibilities of exchanging energy within the embrace

Description:
Our dance can be described as a continuous flow of energy that circulates from one body to another and back again.
Energy and dynamics is a relatively hard material to teach and analyse, so the goal of this workshop is to explain it in a tangible way and be able to use it.

We will work on three parts:
A.We learn how to create different levels of energy, thus provoking different moving dynamics, by using our body properly, making the right use of the floor.
B.We find out how to pass this energy to our partner and how to receive it and return it in balance.
C.Through examples, we observe how this alteration of dynamics affects our dance, making the couple more creative and powerful.

Date: Sunday, 9th February 2020
Time: 5pm to 7pm
Cost: £25 each
Location: Colomba Studio,
31 Oval Road
London NW1 7EA
(5 minutes walk from Camden Town station and 5 minutes walk to the Milonga afterwards)
