WORKSHOP #1:
PAUSING, SLOWING DOWN AND SUSPENDING MOVEMENT

All levels, basic technique, both roles

Argentine Tango is an energetic, rhythmical dance with lots of intricate figures that we often feel like dancing at top speed, inspired by the mind-blowing performances of our favorite stars. However, tango is also a dance of silence, with moments of stillness and depth, giving the partners the opportunity to reconnect to each other, to feel themselves, the floor, the music, and to express tango’s more introverted side. When dancing socially. we want to be able to pause, to suspend movement and to breathe.

The workshop will include:
– Warming up exercises for the legs and the core, followed by some relaxation techniques to free the upper body from excess tension
– Exercises on how to slow down, suspend and pause movement without losing balance or disconnecting from the music
– Pausing and suspensions in a simple walk, by using the pauses in the music
– Basic figures that allow us to stop, breathe and connect to our partner: parada, pasada and sandwich.

Date: Saturday, 29th February 2020
Time: 6pm to 8pm
Cost: £25 (Includes Practica till 10.30pm)
Location: Tango Amistoso
24-27 White Lion St.

WORKSHOP #2 “BACK TO BASICS”:
FREE LEG MOVEMENT IN FRONT AND BACK OCHOS

All levels, basic technique, both roles
Liberating the so-called free leg allows us to draw beautiful lines on the floor, but also helps create circular dynamics in a much more fluent, effortless way. This class will make you work on your front and back ocho technique by concentrating specifically on the workings of the free leg, including some lovely simple embellishments for leaders and followers. This workshop will also prepare you for the one on voleos.

The workshop will include:
– Warming up exercises for the legs, the core and balance, to feel what it means to have one leg completely free
– Technique exercises for front ochos, working on large steps, pivoting and simple embellishments
– Technique exercises for back ochos, working on balance, large steps, easy pivoting and maintaining the right posture
– Exercising for leading front and back ochos without disturbing the partner’s axis and giving the follower time and space for larger free leg movements.

Date: Sunday, 1st March 2020
Time: 3pm to 5pm
Cost: £25 each
Location: Colomba Studio,
31 Oval Road
London NW1 7EA
(5 minutes walk from Camden Town station)

WORKSHOP #3:
FRONT AND BACK VOLEOS: LEAD, TECHNIQUE AND SEQUENCES
Int/Adv technique, both roles

Voleos are among the loveliest movements in tango that can be potentially dangerous for the couple and the people around. Voleos are also technically difficult to dance with ease and possibly even harder to lead with ease. This workshop will allow you to build a strong basis both in how to dance front and back voleos and how to lead/follow them with a partner.

The workshop will include:
– Warming up exercises for the front and back movements of the free leg
– Technique and leading for front voleos
– Technique and leading for low back voleos (on the floor)
– Technique and leading for high back voleos (from the knee and higher)

Date: Sunday, 1st March 2020
Time: 5pm to 7pm
Cost: £25 each
Location: Colomba Studio,
