Workshops with Winston Veerender & Natalia Myczewska

At this year’s festival, Natalia and I will be teaching a series of special workshops designed to deepen your understanding of tango and help you progress more efficiently as a dancer.

These workshops introduce ideas from my Grammar of Tango approach, a structured way of understanding tango as a language.

Just like any language, tango has:

Grammar – the structure that governs movement and communication

 • Vocabulary – the movements dancers use on the dance floor

Understanding this structure can dramatically improve clarity, connection, creativity, and musicality in tango.

Workshop 1: The Grammar of Tango

This workshop introduces the core idea that tango can be understood as a language with its own grammar and structure.

We will explore key concepts that help dancers develop:

• Better awareness in movement

 • Clearer communication between partners

 • More integrated and natural body movement

This framework helps dancers move beyond memorising steps and instead understand how tango actually works.

Workshop 2: The Tango Mindset

Leaders & Followers Workshop

This workshop focuses on what happens in the mind while dancing tango.

Understanding the mental process of dancing can significantly accelerate your learning and creativity.

The workshop introduces two frameworks:

Leader’s 5×5 Mapping System

A structured way for leaders to understand:

• How to organise movement choices on the dance floor

 • How to think during practice and social dancing

 • How to develop creativity and musical interpretation

The Follower’s Pyramid

A framework that explores the follower’s mental and physical process while dancing, helping followers develop:

• Greater responsiveness

 • Clarity in connection

 • Confidence and expression in the dance

Together, these ideas help both leaders and followers approach tango in a more intelligent and efficient way.

Workshop 3: Musical Syncopations

This is a fun and musical workshop exploring syncopation in tango music.

We will look at:

• How syncopations appear in tango music

 • How to recognise them while dancing

 • Practical movement ideas and vocabulary to express them

This workshop will give you tools to play with rhythm and musicality in your dancing.

A Supportive Learning Environment

One of the most beautiful aspects of the festival is the friendly and welcoming atmosphere.

Natalia Myczewska is not only an exceptional dancer but also wonderful with students. She creates a supportive environment that helps dancers feel comfortable, encouraged, and inspired.

Last year, many of the students who joined us had an incredible experience, formed great friendships, and returned home with unforgettable tango memories.
