About the classes

The Yoga classes will build a balance of strength and flexibility in your body but most importantly cultivate the process of creating the mind body connection and general body awareness.

Level of the classes

The classes are taught at an open level with options to take it easy or to push yourself further. If you are an absolute beginner, you will learn the basics and if you have previous Yoga experience, options will be provided to push yourself further.

About the teacher

Our current teacher is Monique Ledesma.

Monique began practicing yoga in 2002. She started learning Shadow Yoga in 2008 and since then she has been studying with Karen Watson at Islington Yoga. In 2010 she began attending courses with Sundernath and Emma Balnaves and continues to study Shadow Yoga and Nrtta Sadhana with them. Monique completed a three year teaching apprenticeship with Karen Watson in February 2014 and is now teaching Introductory courses for Beginners, Level 1 (Balakrama) and Level 2 (Chaya Yoddha Sancalanam) courses at Islington Yoga.

Classes are sometimes taught by Winston Veerender too. Winston is a Yoga Alliance certified Yoga teacher who has trained with the likes of Jason Crandel, Bridget Woods Kramer, Noah Maze. Winston’s classes focus on yoga alignment principles, body awareness and mindful movement.

Booking for the class

It is essential that you let us know that you are coming to the class beforehand. This is to make sure that enough mats are available for everyone. If you are bringing your own mat, it is not necessary to let us know and you can simply turn up. You can let us know during the Tango classes midweek.

What to wear and what to bring

Please wear comfortable clothes for movement. Yoga is done barefoot so you don’t need to bring any specific shoes. Mats and other Yoga equipment will be provided, please feel free to bring your own mat if you prefer though.

The regular Yoga classes are standard Yoga classes where the focus is on building a strong and sustainable Yoga practice. Winston will run special Yoga4Tango sessions every once in a while where the focus will be on explaining how Yoga is more than just a physical exercise, how Yoga helps with Tango and life in general. Please talk to Winston after the class to find out more.
