Travelling for tango should be exciting, but arriving in a new city can also feel uncertain. Where should you go? Will you know anyone? How do you become part of the room rather than simply another visitor?
At Tango Amistoso, community has always mattered as much as the dancing. We have spent years building a warm, open environment where experienced dancers, beginners, Londoners and visitors can meet naturally. When you visit us, we want you to feel that you have somewhere to arrive.
Friday welcome
Start at Milonga Maitrī. Weekend-pass visitors can meet our Community Host, who will welcome you, introduce you to local dancers and help you settle into the community.
Three different nights
Friday Maitrī, Saturday Amistosa and Sunday Simpática each have their own character, giving you a full weekend of classes, dancing and people to meet.
More than the milonga
Tango friendships often continue beyond the dance floor. People may head out after a milonga, meet for Saturday or Sunday lunch or brunch, or make their own plans around London.
The social side is informal. After-parties, meals and meet-ups are not organised or guaranteed by Tango Amistoso. They arise naturally between members and visitors — and being introduced to the community makes it much easier to become part of them.
Three milongas. Three different characters.
A Visit London weekend gives you three distinct Amistoso evenings: two traditional milongas with different moods, followed by our Sunday blend of traditional and alternative tango.
Friday · Milonga Maitrī
Traditional tango · warm, lively, party atmosphere
Maitrī is where your weekend begins. It is one of our most sociable nights: friendly, energetic and relaxed, with traditional tandas and a real Friday-night sense of celebration. This is also where Visit London guests meet the Community Host and start getting to know the local community.
6:30–7:30 pm · Beginners
7:30–9:00 pm · Open Level
9:00 pm–midnight · Milonga Maitrī (sometimes extended)
Saturday · Milonga Amistosa
Traditional tango · focused, experienced dancing
Amistosa follows our Saturday Advanced class, so the evening naturally attracts many experienced and committed dancers. The atmosphere remains welcoming and unpretentious, but the overall level of dancing tends to be particularly strong — a lovely night if you enjoy traditional social tango in a focused room.
6:45–8:15 pm · Advanced Level
8:15–11:30 pm · Milonga Amistosa
Sunday · Milonga Simpática
50% traditional · 50% modern & alternative
Sunday changes the mood. Simpática combines traditional tango with modern and alternative music, creating a playful end to the weekend. Come earlier for the Beginners class or Tango Unlimited, then stay for a milonga where familiar tango traditions meet a broader musical palette.
5:00–6:00 pm · Beginners
6:00–7:30 pm · Tango Unlimited
7:30–10:30 pm · Milonga Simpática
Schedules are typical and may change on special weekends. The individual weekend page will always show the programme for your dates.

Classes worth travelling for
A Visit London stay is not only about having somewhere to dance at night. It is also an opportunity to spend several days immersed in the Tango Amistoso approach to learning tango.
Serious teaching, friendly room
Our regular classes are popular because we take the quality of teaching seriously without making the learning environment intimidating. We work on technique, connection, musicality and a deeper understanding of how tango works, with clear ideas that dancers can take into their social dancing straight away.
Different levels across the weekend
From Beginners and Open Level on Friday to Advanced on Saturday and Tango Unlimited on Sunday, visitors can experience different sides of the school. Choose the sessions appropriate to your level and combine learning with plenty of time on the dance floor.
Stay longer, go deeper
If you are in London for more than a weekend, the seven-day option lets you join our regular programme across the week as well as the weekend. It is an easy way to make tango part of your London stay rather than fitting everything into one night.

Across our milongas we put a great deal of care into the music. We work with experienced DJs and aim for consistently high-quality sets that support the character of each evening: traditional tandas at Maitrī and Amistosa, and the broader traditional, modern and alternative palette of Simpática.
The DJs change and each brings their own personality, but the aim stays the same: music that makes you want to dance and helps create a room with energy, flow and connection.

A friendly way into London Tango
London has a large and wonderfully varied tango scene. When Tango Amistoso began, one of our founding ideas was that serious tango learning and beautiful social dancing could sit alongside warmth, openness and friendship. We have worked deliberately to create a community where people speak to one another, new dancers are encouraged and visitors can quickly feel at home.
We would love you to explore London and its wider tango scene while you are here. Think of Amistoso as your starting point: a place where you can arrive, meet people and begin your London tango experience with familiar faces around you.
Coming alone?
Absolutely fine. You do not need to arrive with a partner or already know somebody in London. Come to Maitrī on Friday, introduce yourself as a Visit London guest, and we will help you find your feet socially. We cannot promise dances or invitations to private social plans, but we can make sure you are welcomed and introduced.
